Aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems are linked in many ways, e.g. by the exchange of organic matter, or by flood and drought events. Our study groups analyzes these effects in the aquatic-terrestrial transition zone of streams, rivers, lakes and their wetlands. A special focus lies in the comparison of temperate and tropical wetland systems. Since 1993, we study the Pantanal of Mato Grosso, a large seasonal wetland in Brazil, and deliver science-based concepts for its sustainable use and conservation.
