In an interactive setting, the SUSPRISE network (Sustainable Enterprise) hosts a session for industrial and research representatives as well as policy makers to discuss the success in international cooperation between national (subsidy) programmes resulting in transnational programmes and strategies. SUSPRISE as an international network of 16 ministries and agencies from 9 European countries tries to stimulate the sustainable development in European industry. The coordinators of four transnational projects, funded through SUSPRISE, report first project results and the benefits of transnational funding schemes from two perspectives: the industry - especially SME - and the research organisation perspective. The session is open to all persons interested in this topic from all EC countries, especially not (yet) part of the network.

After an introduction by the SUSPRISE coordinator, the coordinators of four transnational projects funded through SUSPRISE, reported on their first project results and commented on the benefits of transnational funding schemes from two perspectives: the industry and the research organisation perspective.
Main issues of DialogueMain findings were that transnational programmes really fill up the gap between national and EU programmes. The SUSPRISE programme enabled to build small and nice European consortia and allowed researchers to work in transnational projects based on well-known national funding rules. The project coordinators emphasised the short, straight forward and flexible procedures from application of the project proposal to the start of the projects. The template for proposal application was also well suited for SME partners. They experienced Europe as living organisation. Through the SUSPRISE programme partners from industry and research organisations were able to enter new markets, enlarge their personal networks and collaborate with technological leaders abroad. For instance, in one of the projects, former competitors became project partners by touching common problems and opening new business opportunities for all parties.
