Over the past decade
there has been a strong acceleration of change from a local economy base to a
global economy one.
Recently, however, we have begun to see subtle indicators that a trend is
developing that moves society from a global economy back to a local
economy. Consumer concerns over lead in
toys or contaminated food, for example, and the sharp increase in the cost of
energy required to move products through a global supply chain are perhaps the
most visible accelerants to this process.
But what does this new trend mean for the local
infrastructure?
This workshop will look at the political and
physical infrastructure issues surrounding this new trend, and investigate
those that merit attention.
Identification of possible research and/or action themes is an expected outcome of
this workshop.
