Discussion of concepts in
solar energy and their possible future impact.
Format: Roundtable Discussion Sprache:

Governments and citizens have become increasingly conscious of the need for renewable energy sources due to diminishing fossil fuel reserves and the impact of these energy carriers on the environment. Solar energy is by far the most abundant source of energy available to mankind and will, no doubt, make a significant contribution to sustainable development and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The two major applications of solar energy are the generation of electricity by photovoltaic or solar thermal processes and the provision of heat for domestic and industrial purposes. In this workshop, which concentrates on the first topic, the following questions will be discussed:
Which concepts are available for the use of solar energy? And where can they be used most efficiently?
What are the advantages of the different concepts?
Which technologies will be successful in future energy scenarios?
The workshop will start with two short invited lectures on the status and potential of photovoltaic and solar thermal technologies.
