Main activities and responsibilities: Coordination of national and international research projects in the field of ecosystem services and eco-compensation, impact assessment of land use and multifunctionality, and natural resources management. Major projects include National Key Project for Basic Research (973), Technical Assistant Project of Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Sino-EU Copperation project of MOST, National Science Fundation of China, CAS, EU-SENSOR, NASA of USA, NIES of Japan, and MAS of Mongolia. Appart from nation-wide research, the projects cover agricultural-forestry ecosystem in Jinghe Watershed of Northwest China, wetland ecosystem in Poyanghu region of southern China and grassland ecosystem in Mongolian plateau.
