TNO is one of Europe’s largest research organisations (4648 researchers and EUR 570 million turnover for 2006). The TNO – Strategy and Policy Unit  is one of the 25 business areas of Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO). It is a multidisciplinary group of about 120 researchers and consultants working on the longer-term problems and challenges related to the interactions between technology, economics, markets, organisational structures, environment, culture and policy.

TNO-Strategy and Policy domain expertise includes:
(i) foresight, analysis and evaluation and impact of science, technology and  industrial policies;
(ii) policies and strategies for life sciences, ICT/media and sustainable development.

TNO- Strategy and Policy has fast access to specialized knowledge in most areas of technology and its applications held in-house in TNO’s five core areas: Geosciences and Sustainable Infrastructures, Quality of Life, Science and Industry, ICT and Services, and Public Safety and Defence. TNO has a vast network of relations with s  imilar institutes throughout Europe. About 25% of the work is carried out in the framework of a 4-year strategic plan that is negotiated and agreed with the Dutch government. All other work is done in research or consultancy contracts with a wide range of clients.
