Innovations as a Key to Sustainability in Industry

Boosting sustainability in industry means focusing on an optimization of the production of goods and the provision of services while taking into account sustainability aspects. This requires the development of new technologies and of new procedures as well as the designing of new strategies in industry. A central task of the future is to develop innovations that act as key factors for sustainability in industry based on their level of innovation and their potential application in diverse production processes and sectors.
However, to be able to tap far-reaching sustainability potential, it is not always necessary to invent innovative technologies or processes. An innovative combination of established and proven methods can also contribute to the achievement of specific sustainability goals in many economic sectors. The objective of this research support is to exploit all this potential and make it usable for industry.

This support is provided with the intensive involvement of German companies; particularly small and medium-sized enterprises will be active here since they have a considerable innovation potential and can incorporate new developments into their current business processes rapidly.
