On the initiative of the BMBF, the dialogue on research for sustainability with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) which resulted from the 4th BMBF Forum for Sustainability was encouraged. This dialogue within the scope of SiNCE
(Sustainability through innovative networks in Central and Eastern Europe) was brought forward in cooperation with the BMBF
and the Fraunhofer Center for Central : Five bilateral conferences on research for sus-tainability were realized in Prague, Sofia, Warsaw, Bucharest and Budapest.
The session brings together key players of those five conferences and representatives from industry, politics, science and intermediary entities from Central and Eastern European countries and Germany. In doing so, the different perspectives
shall be presented and potentials for cooperation concerning the development of markets for sustainability research shall be discussed.
Thus the session contributes
essentially to the implementation of the Leipzig Declaration and the aim to
combine the challenges of sustainable development with the challenges of
competitiveness.
