Contribution of research to a competitive and sustainable Europe
Europe was not really the topic of our session. Our session rather focussed on German competitiveness in the water sector by joining forces in research, business and politics.
Generally spoken, research will be indespensable to compete with other knowledge-based countries. But high-level research alone will not be enough to compete successfully: a good strategy and the coordinated action of politics, science and business will be the surplus to defend high-level performance in the world markets.
Research priority areas for the foreseeable future
Difficult to judge - Water is an important theme, because of its importance for peace and life in general. But I feel it is not a priority theme, because there are not so much high-level advances expectable
Possible fields:
nanotechnologies
neurobiology
biology in general in combination with electronics, material sciences
Other important issues or topics discussed during the session
Coordinated action of politics, science and business: how to achieve?
