The Environmental Technologies Action Plan
(ETAP) is geared towards strengthening the market dynamics of environmental
protection and improving the competitiveness of European companies on the
global market. It contributes
to the Lisbon Strategy. In Germany, a
national ETAP network has been set up in order to improve information and
coordination of actions in line with the German ETAP Roadmap. A fundamental element of the ETAP Strategy is bridge building between
research and markets.
After an introduction of the ETAP process it
will be discussed how research results could be made marketable. As example of
successful collaboration between planning, research and technological
innovation the rehabilitation of open cast lignite mining sites in eastern
