A4 European Sustainability Research – Application and Participation in the 7th EU-Framework programme for Research and Development

got to Session Results

Date: 24/09/2008
Time: 11:00 - 12:30
Location: Hall F.1

Target Audience: Researchers interested in applying for funding in the 7th EU Framework Programme from universities, industry, SMEs and research centres in Germany
Objectives:
  • Presentation of some aspects regarding research for sustainable development in the 7th EU Framework Programme for Research which are as such multidisciplinarity, internationalisation and innovation.
  • German researchers should be motivated firstly to take part in FP7 projects and secondly to network between different FP7 projects in case they are already partner or coordinator of a project
  • Motivation of programme owners and administrators for more orientation at research on European and International level.
Format: Presentations with Q+A and open discussion with the audience
Language: English

The central resolution paper of the European Parliament and the European Union on the 7th European Framework Programme for Research formulates as the superordinated aim for the Specific Programme ‘Cooperation’ a contribution to Sustainable Development.
The Workshop is going to present recently started research projects of FP7 and will boost the discussion with the researchers involved. After an introduction on the issue ‘Sustainable development’ given by a representative of the European Commission (DG Research and Technological Development) three important and central aspects of FP7 research on sustainable development will be highlighted. German project coordinators are going to present the research approaches in their respective projects under the headings ‘multidisciplinarity’, ‘internationalisation’ and ‘innovation’.
The discussion will aim at finding out the policy relevant products as the output of the projects but also at learning about the added value of EU projects.
Additionally some information will be provided by the National Contact Point ‘Environment’ in FP7 on how to participate in and make an application for FP7.

Session Results

Contribution of research to a competitive and sustainable Europe
  • Improving and enriching the science-policy-link, considering political frameworks
  • Open up the view on the same issue by use of different disciplines and different national backgrounds of researchers
  • Feeling comfortable with complexity (welcome some redunancy and multiple entry points for research)
Other important issues or topics discussed during the session
  • Pay attention to the „non-riviality“ of communication between researchers from different countries. (call for facilitation, coaching,...)
