Contribution of research to a competitive and sustainable Europe
Europe can start early with adaptation to climate change in order to reduce costs. It can develop (and later on export) products that can cope with climate change. Therefore, competitive advantages should be possible.
Research can help to ensure shelter and to maintain comfort and health at low costs.
Research priority areas for the foreseeable future
Climate data service for different user groups
Energy efficient technologies
Cooling
Short term forecasting of extreme events
Adaptation of water sourcing
Other important issues or topics discussed during the session
As demand for products that help to adapt to climate change is quite small in the beginning research funding and support for early actors by public funds could be necessary.
Adopting research results to the specific problems of emerging countries (high vulnerability, few resources)
Information and consulting for SMEs
Water recycling
