The reduction of land consumption and promoting sustainable land management is a central task of the sustainability policy in Germany. Its realisation is necessary against the background of an over proportional increase of land consumption for housing and transport compared to the population development.
The research programme REFINA “Research for the Reduction of Land Consumption and Sustainable Land Management” contributes to identify qualitatively and quantitatively the constraints and risks of an increasing land use, to develop strategies for reduction and to use chances optimally.
Beside local and regional model concepts and measures to increase the communication and awareness raising, innovative tools and instruments are developed. The session offers promising research results in the fields of communication, cost transparency and 3D for practical application for decision makers and scientists as well as an international view on German developments.
