Workshop Results

Speakers input

The speakers gave an overview on new developments in carbon footprint – measuring, methodologies, decision making and labelling. The following levels where adressed:

  • strategies on the level of Government
  • sector specific strategies
  • corporate level
  • connection with decision making processes
Main issues of Dialogue
  • carbon footprint activities are mainly market driven
  • fokus should be set on the identification and realisation of greenhouse gas saving potentials
  • basis methodology is the (Product) Life Cycle Assessment (ISO 14040ff.)
  • only focus on greenhouse gases can be misleading
Practical conclusions
  • methodology should be harmonized internationally
  • branch organisations should develop sector strategies
  • carbon footprint issues should be part of integrated decision making processes
