The environmentally acceptable and sustainable organizations of events are increasingly discussed in sport, culture, science, politics/administration or society all over the world. The Football World Cup in Germany 2006 and the European Football Championship EURO 2008 in Austria/Switzerland are just a few examples of accomplished or planned »Green Events«. Negative effects of large events on the environment and criteria of sustainability for events are more and more noticed and got higher attention in public discussion. Therefore »Green Events« gains in importance for organizers and sponsors. Standards and awards for example for the “green meetings” topics are pointing out this trend. Events are modern ways and instruments of communication. The event-market is growing dynamically, but it also affects negative environmental and social consequences. »Green Events« are planned, organized and performed on the basis of sustainability-criteria, as there are: environmentally suitable, social agreeable and economically successful.
