

Dr. Göksel N. Demirer received his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from the Department of Environmental Engineering at Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey in 1989 and 1991, respectively. Then, he received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee, USA in 1996. Then, he joined the Department of Environmental Engineering at Middle East Technical University as a faculty member where he is currently a full professor.
He has been a visiting professor in Washington State University, Department of Biological Systems Engineering, Pullman, WA, USA and RMIT University, School of Civil, Environmental and Chemical Engineering, Melbourne, VIC, Australia in 2003-2004 and 2007, respectively.
His areas of interest include anaerobic environmental biotechnology, wastewater engineering, cleaner production, natural treatment systems, bioenergy and biobased product formation from wastes.
He has over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, 90 conference proceeding publications, over 230 citations recorded in the Science Citation Index (ISI). Moreover, he has been the primary investigator of 7 and co-primary investigator or researcher of 11 research projects funded by national and international institutions. He has been the principal supervisor of 15 and co-advisor of 3 graduate theses. He is also the author of several books and book chapters.
