Dr. Reza Ardakanian
UN-Water Decade Programme on Capacity Development, Iran United Nations
Short biography
Dr. Reza Ardakanian, holder
of an MSc and PhD in Water Resources Management from McMaster University in Canada, is a Faculty
member of Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iran. From
2001-2005 he served as Deputy Minister for Water Affairs in the Iranian Ministry
of Energy. From 2003 until 2007 he was a member of the Governing Board of
UNESCO-IHE, based in Delft in the Netherlands, and also served the
International Water Academy in Oslo, Norway, as a member of the Board of
Trustees. He is the Founding Director of RCUWM, a regional centre for urban water
management in Tehran, under the auspices of UNESCO.
Dr. Ardakanian’s cooperation
with the United Nations University began in 2003 when he served as a member of the Advisory Committee
of the Institute of Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), based in Bonn, Germany. In
August 2007 he was appointed as the Founding Director of the UN-Water Decade
Programme on Capacity Development (UNW-DPC) by the Rector of the United Nations
University. The programme’s offices are in Bonn, Germany.
