Short biography
Professor Dr. Dr. Karl-Ulrich Rudolph is double educated in water engineering and environmental economics.
Before joining the Private University of Witten/Herdecke, Germany, as director of the IEEM (Institute of Environmental Engineering and Management), and becoming the CEO of the CEEM (Prof. Dr. Dr. Rudolph GmbH, Consultants for Environmental Engineering and Management), he worked for the operations of GfA, a large sewage treatment plant company, as member of the Deutsche Bank Advisory Board, and as Supervisory Board Member for the Berlin Water Works.
2008, he was awarded as Guest Professor at the NEU - National Economic University in Hanoi and is Honorary Member of the UN Water DPC Task-Force on Water Efficiency.
In the Republic of South Africa (RSA), he leads the research project about Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) focusing the Olifants river basin, which is funded by BMBF (the German Research Ministry) and WRC (the Water Research Commission RSA), and which is including innovative management options, like Franchise. The Franchise concept of IEEM has won the Global Contest at the World Bank 2006 and received additional funding for pilot implementation in RSA. Since 2009, the GWFA - Global Water Franchise Agency is exploiting these outcomes from the BMBF-funded research, world-wide.
