i.green (Institute for Green Technology & Rural Development) is a cross-departmental research institute of the three departments agriculture, electrical power engineering and mechanical and automation engineering of the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences, Division Soest.

The research activities of the South Westphalia University are mainly application-oriented and carried out in strong co-operation with industrial partners. The new founded institute (2009) will focus on two current research areas by connecting the engineering and agricultural competences at the Soest Campus. This will be done by professional research management and science marketing.

i.green focus its activities on two key research areas, Green Technology and Rural Development. The following research topics are of special interest:

• Economical disparities and perspectives of rural areas in North-Rhine Westphalia
• Living conditions in rural areas and demographic developments
• Rational use of energy
• Renewable energy sources

Cross-Sectional Tasks:

• Policy impact analyses and assessment
• Technical and economical feasibility studies
• Estimation of consequences and further development of policies for rural development
• Professional support for research and development programs
