Geo.X - Geoscience research platform in Berlin and Potsdam

Geo.X is a network of geoscientific expertise in the Berlin-Potsdam area. It bundles the geoscientific competence in research, teaching, infrastructure, and transfer in the region. Based on this platform, the partners coordinate their joint research and training programs in order to make relevant contributions to future issues in the Earth-Human system. Boundaries between scientific disciplines are overcome and it is intended to create a new quality in the cooperation of engineering, natural sciences, social and economic sciences, and humanities. Due to the broad range of cooperating partners, Geo.X incorporates geoscientific research across all spacial and temporal scales. The main focus is on the key research themes “Natural Hazards and Risks” and “Natural Resources and Energy Materials”. Within all topics, scientists combine different approaches ranging from basic research of the System Earth to applied research. The development of technologies and methods as well as the allocation of services stimulate practical application of results and their dissemination among political decision makers and the general public. Geo.X is an initiative of the Free University Berlin, the Humboldt University Berlin, the Museum of Natural History, the Technical University Berlin, the University of Potsdam and the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences.
