ROV HYBIS auf FS SONNE
Recovery of ROV HYBIS after sampling in the Guaymas basin in the gulf of California during cruise SO241 of the research vessel SONNE. The aim of the cruise was to better understand the impact of volcanic activity during the opening of an ocean basin on the global climate. The SONNE serves as a research platform for almost all marine research disciplines. She operates primarily in the Pacific and Indian Oceans and her chief distinguishing feature is her depth of six metres, which guarantees stability and optimal research conditions even in rough seas. As co-funder of the construction and operation costs, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) charters the SONNE for 250 days a year for research expeditions.
