The Federal Ministry of Education and Research at COP23

From November 6 to 17, 2017, the 23rd World Climate Change Conference (COP23) of the United Nations will take place in Bonn. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research is represented with various contributions.

More than 25 000 participants, from all over the world, are expected to attend the UN Climate Conference in Bonn. This year's climate conference is being chaired by the South Pacific Island State of Fiji. Following the adoption of of the Paris Climate Agreement in 2015 and its taking effect in 2016, this conference will develop concrete details for the Agreement's implementation. The Paris Climate Agreement was an important milestone for climate research. It built the scientific foundations and will play an important role in achieving the Agreement's goals.

  • German Science Hour

The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research is therefore bringing science to the stage during the negotiations at COP23 by hosting the German Science Hour every day. Experts from science, and relevant stakeholders from politics and society present the latest scientific facts about climate change, explain research findings in an understandable way, and answer the audience's questions. The scope of the German Science Hour covers everything from naturalistic and socio-economic aspects, to climate communication in times of fake news.

In close cooperation with the City of Bonn the Ministry of Research is also presenting a wide range of projects for the Science Year 2016 * 17 "Seas and Oceans"
