International Hydrogen Projects – Module 2
Within the framework of the funding guideline, the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) would like to work with the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) to promote international cooperation in the field of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives, as well as the establishment of import routes to Germany. Partners should be countries outside the European Economic Area and Switzerland.
THE THREE MAIN OBJECTIVES ARE:
-
the prompt and targeted development of a global market for renewable hydrogen and its derivatives and the consequent price reduction through scaling and innovation,
-
the promotion of the use and application of technologies for the production of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives by companies with a registered branch or establishment in Germany,
-
the preparation and implementation of import routes to Germany.
FUNDING IS CARRIED OUT IN TWO MODULES:
In Module 1 – funded by the BMWi – the focus is in particular on the establishment of innovative pilot plants of industrially relevant size and their testing under different climatic conditions. Infrastructures for storage and transport of renewable hydrogen can be funded in connection with a subsidised production facility. Facilities for the conversion of renewable hydrogen into derivatives such as methane, ammonia or methanol are also eligible for funding.
In Module 2 – funded by the BMFTR – accompanying research projects as well as preparatory or accompanying scientific analyses and studies, the establishment of relevant research infrastructures and the development of operator models are also supported. Aspects that serve the training of scientific and economic junior staff can also be part of the projects.
