Kopernikus-Project Navigation System for the Energy Transition (ENavi)

How can transdiciplinary research contribute to greater advance of the energy transition?

EU Energy Policy and the German Energy Transition, Prof. Dr. Michèle Knodt

  • The German Energiewende has largely been conceived as a national project of system transformation.
  • Contrary to this, the governance of the Energy Union seeks to align national policies and foster closer co-operation between Member States.
  • This raises the question of the impacts of EU energy governance on policy coordination and policy formulation within Germany.

The Coal Question: Past and Future Trends, Prof. Dr. Ottmar Edenhofer, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Hufendiek

  • Achieving global warming well below 2°C calls for an emissions peak in 2020
  • Cheap and abundant coal is the driver of a „re-carbonisation of the energy system in some parts of the world
  • Immediate re-directing of investments from fossils to low carbon and efficiency solutions is required to reach the 2° guardrail

Decarbonisation of Traffic and Transport – a Legal Policy Perspective, Prof. Dr. Michael Rodi

  • Integrating the sector mobility in the energy transition system
  • Reducing traffic and shift motorized individual transport
  • Switching to alternative and/or electrical drives
  • Transdisciplinary Discourse: a Path for Implementation, Dr. Piet Sellke
  • Transdisciplinary discourse as a means for implementing technical solutions on different levels
  • Transdisciplinary discourse as a tool for collecting needs and ideas for research agendas from society as large
  • Transdisciplinary discourse to identify and solve possible conflicts of interests

About ENavi
ENavi approaches the energy transition as a process of broad societal transformation and combines scientific analysis with political-social requirements. The central product is a navigation tool that allows researchers to assess the effects and side effects of economic, political, legal or social measures in advance. ENavi is one of four Kopernikus Projects financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to undertake research on the energy transition. Among the sixty associated partners of this socio-scientific cooperation project in Germany are 18 university and 24 non-university research institutes, 3 NGOs, 9 companies, 4 local authorities, 2 regional authorities.
